Home Remedies: How To Get Rid Of Pimple Scars

Natural Remedies How TO Get RId OF Acne Scars

There are various types of pimple scars or acne scars. Anyone who has them would like their skin restored to its former beauty. Fortunately, there are some incredible home remedies that are very effective! In this article we share the best tips and recipes that show you how to get rid of pimple scars.

It’s not uncommon for people who suffer from pimples and acne to also develop pimple scars. This happens for many reasons, but if the acne condition was prolonged, the chances increase for deep damage to the skin that causes scarring.

Regardless of what kind of acne scars you have, the skin is most easily repaired if you don’t wait too much time after the acne itself has been healed. But even if your pimple scars are years old, there are home remedies that can rejuvenate the scarred skin, remove hyper-pigmentation (discoloration) and smooth out uneven scarred skin.

What Causes Acne and Acne Scars?

Some of the causes of acne and resulting scars are beyond our control. Others can be alleviated, but we have to know what to do! Or not do, as the case may also be…

Some of the main causes of stubborn acne are:

Diet – Poor digestion leads to pimples or acne, and resulting acne scars. A diet of processed, packaged foods that contain chemicals is damaging to overall health and to skin health. Consuming lots of “fast food” and oily fried foods also contributes to acne scarring, as skin can become overly inflamed due to poor elimination of toxins.

Heredity – Some people have a family history of sensitive skin, or have inherited a tendency for poor food assimilation and poor digestion. These factors can also lead to acne and acne scars.

Stress – When we are under stress, our bodies compensate by supporting and protecting internal organs first. Nutrients that are normally directed to maintain skin health are channeled away from skin development in order to support overall health better during stress. The renewal and regrowth of skin cells is slowed down, which could result in stubborn pimple scars.

Hormones – During adolescence, there is often an overabundance of oil created by sebaceous glands. If digestion is poor, and/or the person is under stress (as is often the case during teen years) skin pores and hair follicles may become clogged with excess oil, bacteria and dead skin cells. This can result in acne scars.

Additionally, the change in hormone levels during women’s monthly cycles or even during menopause can create the conditions for excess oil that may result in clogged pores and adult acne.

Environmental – Toxins in the water we use and in the air we breathe can also contribute to acne and acne scarring.

Also, these actions can cause pimple scars:

  • touching the skin frequently
  • picking at or popping acne pimples
  • rubbing blemished skin roughly with towels
  • regularly covering pimples with heavy makeup foundation

Lifestyle Tips – How to Get Rid Of Acne Scars – Naturally!

There are a few basic home remedy guidelines that can help you if you really want to reduce your acne scars. Your scars will be easier to remove if you approach this from the inside and outside. Good digestion and internal cleansing are very important for removal of stubborn pimple scars. That, plus natural topical remedies applied to the surface of your skin, will give you a two-way approach to getting rid of your scars.

This will require a bit of adjustment on your part, but the results will be well worth it! Be aware that healing your skin and getting rid of your pimple scars is not something that will happen overnight. Depending on the condition of your skin and the age of the scars, it could even take a few months.

However, most people, will see a difference much more quickly, sometimes within a week or two. The important thing is to stay the course, especially when you start to see results!

Here are a few main points… although they are good habits to develop if you want to maintain healthy glowing skin, it may not be necessary for you to stick to these points forever… but they will help you to get rid of those scars!

Note: Not all home remedies will be effective at the same rates for everyone – it depends on your body, skin and how diligent you are in your skin care routine. Also, if you find that one or more of these natural substances annoys you or causes an allergic reaction, discontinue that one and try another – everyone is different, but these natural home remedies are known to help the majority of people who use them.

I’ve focused on the most natural and unprocessed herbs and remedies that are out there, because the closer to the natural herbs we keep, the easier on the body!

What to Avoid:

1. Avoid wearing all-over face makeup foundation while you treat your scarred facial tissue – let your skin breathe! Makeup, even natural makeup, will stifle the skin pores from breathing and slow down the rate of skin cellular repair (Note: continue reading for tips below if you do want to wear makeup)

2. Avoid consuming lots of sugar, fried foods and sour foods, like dairy products (hard cheese is the worst culprit, but milk, cream cheese and sour cream are also on the no-go list).

You can substitute with plant-based products, like almond milk, coconut milk or oat milk, etc. Almonds, coconut and oats also contain nutrients that are great for the skin!

3. Avoid using soaps, cleansers, wipes and any other skin care product that contains artificial ingredients and toxic chemicals. Also, prescription skin/acne medications contain artificial ingredients and often have side effects. Plus, they’re hard on digestion and that adds to skin problems. So, instead, try using natural remedies (listed below) for healing your scars.

4. Avoid touching your face and picking at your skin. This causes additional inflammation and skin scarring.

What To Do:

1. Maintain a diet that includes lots of (preferably organic) fresh fruits and veggies. Some foods that are excellent for the complexion and skin cell repair are:

papaya, sweet potato; dark green leafy vegetables, like kale and chard; salmon and sardines (high in Omega fatty acids); lemon juice; cauliflower, and other cruciferous veggies, like broccoli.

2. In order to heal your skin, it’s important to take herbal remedies to remove toxins that have accumulated due to inflammation and poor digestion. One of the best herbs for inflammation is neem leaf (Azadirachta indica), which is a powerful anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial natural herb. Neem is so amazing that I wrote an entire article about neem and all of its health benefits!

Neem is easy to take in powder form, so I’d suggest these excellent herbal tablets ✓ from Banyan Botanicals. They contain 5 super-healing herbs – neem, manjishta, turmeric, guduchi and burdock. These herbs specifically cleanse the blood. That helps the liver; and that, in turn, helps digestion, making it easier for your skin to heal. You should take these tablets daily according to the instructions on the bottle. Cleansing the blood is key to better skin and healing your acne scars.

3. In the morning: rather than soap, wash your face with warm water, then cool water, and then pat dry. Apply a thin layer of either jojoba oil ✓ or tamanu oil ✓ and smooth over skin. Let the oil soak in naturally – they are not heavy and clogging. These two oils are restorative and protective to scarred skin. They are amazing for reducing scars and evening out skin tone. Use a natural sun protection cream if you are going outside to further protect your skin. I like to suggest this one from Beauty By Earth ✓, because it’s all natural and is for whenever you’re spending time in the sun.

4. In the evening: If you want to use soap to wash away dirt and grime from the day, choose a natural anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory soap and keep it aside just for washing your face at night. This mild neem soap ✓ is excellent and you could also try this anti-bacterial turmeric and sandalwood soap ✓. Wash your face with soap and warm water, then rinse with cool water and pat dry.

Next, apply a thin layer of Vitamin C serum ✓ to further heal your skin while you sleep. Vitamin C serum is important reducing deeper scars. It is also fantastic for eliminating hyper-pigmentation (discoloration). Vitamin C is photo-sensitive, so you should avoid using this during the day if you will be in direct sunlight and only use it at night.

5. At any time: You can mix ½ teaspoon of jojoba oil or tamanu oil (links in point 3. above) with a few (2-4) drops each of helichrysum essential oil ✓, frankincense essential oil ✓ and/or lavender essential oil ✓. These essential oils work especially on repairing deep scar damage.

You can use all three of these essential oils together with jojoba oil or tamanu oil, or choose one or two – just be sure to always cut the essential oils with a carrier oil, as essential oils are very concentrated right out of the bottle and could be too strong for your skin if you use directly.
Spread this mixture on your acne scars in a thin layer and leave on – it will absorb into the skin and can also be used under makeup, if you choose to wear foundation at any time.

Once Or Twice Per Week: Facial Masks

You should support your daily routine with one or more of these deep cleansing facial masks made with all natural ingredients. These home remedies will provide additional cellular repair for your skin on a deep level. You don’t have to use them all, but I’m giving a few suggestions and you should definitely include some of these in your routine to get rid of pimple scars.

1. Once or twice a week make a facial mask of one of the following easy to find items. These fruits and veggies have natural enzymes that repair damaged skin cells, even out skin tone and reduce uneven skin due to acne scarring:

Raw fresh tomato: Peel and mash tomato into a pulp (can use a blender) and smooth over face. Keep on for ½ -1 hour then wash off.

Fresh Papaya pulp: Mash enough papaya pulp to cover your face in a thin layer. Let dry for ½ -1 hour, then wash off. Eat some papaya, too! Papaya enzymes are not only great for diminishing acne scars, but are also great for digestion.

Fresh raw onion: Blend a small peeled onion and mix it with aloe vera gel. (You can use fresh aloe gel if you have a plant, or find the best quality aloe vera gel at a local natural market). Spread a thin layer on your face and leave on as long as you can. Onion juice is high in quercetin, that is powerful for healing acne scars and for eliminating skin discoloration (hyper-pigmentation) due to acne.

Raw organic honey: All raw organic honey has incredible medicinal properties and is amazing for healing wounds and reducing scarred skin tissue. But if you can afford it, invest in a small jar of Manuka honey, which produces even more amazing results. Manuka honey ✓ is a unique, super-charged medicinal honey from New Zealand and Australia. A small jar will last a long time!

For this recipe, mix about 2 teaspoons of manuka honey with 3-6 drops of tea tree oil ✓ and make a thin layer over your skin. Leave on for 1-3 hours if possible and then gently wash off of skin.

Turmeric and aloe vera: Turmeric powder is anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial and fantastic for skin and for removing scars. For this recipe, mix 1-2 teaspoons aloe vera gel with ½ teaspoon turmeric powder, to form a paste.

I like to buy turmeric powder in bulk ✓ as it is more economical and you can also take 1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon per day, for internal cleansing – mix it with honey or here’s a recipe for turmeric latte (you can use plant milk, if you’re avoiding dairy). You can also use turmeric liberally in cooking! It adds a bright color and doesn’t have a really strong flavor – I use it in Indian and Mexican dishes all the time.

Spread a thin layer of this mixture on your face (and/or any skin that has random pimple scars or acne scars) and leave on for at least one hour – longer if you can! Then gently wash off with warm water followed by cool water and pat your face dry. Finish with a thin layer of jojoba or tamanu oil. Or, if you are doing this before bed, finish with your Vitamin C serum.

Conclusion

Home remedies that don’t involve expensive prescription medicines are proven to be very effective in helping to get rid of pimple scars – even if the scars are older. Internal cleansing will move out toxins that keep your skin from healing, encouraging better cellular repair. Topical oils and serums that are made with natural ingredients are much more effective and better for you than overly expensive and often chemical-filled commercial skin repair products.

Give some of these easy home remedies for pimple scars a try and give yourself a chance to improve your health and skin. Then you’ll have the glowing complexion that you desire! I wish you great success with your new skin care program!
